TH E UNHOLLY ALLIANCE TOUR III
WOLVERHAMPTON CIVIC HALL
OCTOBER 28th 2008

Thanks to the show kicking off at a ridiculously early time and the fact that the local football team were playing a home game on the same night, getting to the venue tonight became a real ordeal.  Arriving at the Civic Hall the venue car park was full, so an alternative was sought.  Eventually we found one - but it was advertised as "football parking".  If it was gonna be open when we returned was something on my mind all night - but I wasn't going to let a small issue like getting home spoil a Slayer show!

NICKELBACK
+ STAIND

MANCHESTER, EVENING NEWS ARENA
MONDAY 15TH SEPTEMBER, 2008

Tonight was always going to be a no win situation for me tonight.  I'll admit now that I'm not a Nickelback fan (and even less a Staind fan!)  If I hated tonight's performance I'd be berated and I would have as much grief thrown my way if I showed any sliver of pleasure on the way home!

We arrived in Manchester at pretty much the exact time that Staind were due to go on stage - so we hit the Hard Rock CafĂ© for half an hour, took a steady stroll to the arena.  Checked out the merchandise and pretty well did anything that didn't have to involve seeing Staind!  Unfortunately we caught their last two songs - and I wasn't proved wrong in missing them on purpose!

Entering the arena tonight I was surprised at just how full it was - the floor, the lower and upper tiers completely rammed maybe something else was going on?

Time for a different sort of vacation ... one right here on our home turf!! Now that "Death Magnetic" is complete, we're ready to start a proper indoor arena tour of the States and Canada and we can't wait to visit all of our 'Talli-fans here . . . it really has been too long (hey, what's four years amongst friends?). SATURDAY 5th JULY 2008

I have never been to Twickenham before for any reason - the home of egg chasing, er, sorry rugby!  I didn't know what to really expect travel wise down to the leafy suburb of Richmond so I faced a 3 and half-hour coach trip south from here.  On arriving in the coach park we heard the closing strains of Within Temptation's set.  Oh well!  I beat a mammoth fuel bill and extortionate parking fees anyway!

First band that I got to see then was Avenged Sevenfold.  To be honest this is a band I enjoy on record, but this was my second time of seeing them - both on huge outdoor shows and I think that has gone against them twice!  They have the songs, but being on a bill like this they don't have the PA, or any stage show to look at.  When you could make out any vocals it seemed to consist of a lot of "we love Iron Maiden" and "we're so pleased to be playing here."  AX7 faired better in front of the rabid Maiden fans but I don't think they won too many over during their curtailed hour-long set.  Half way through set closer the band stopped playing so that somebody hurt in the crowd could receive attention.Read more... )
